Why is HACCP compliance important in Food Supply chain?

The food borne diseases are increasing in the US. What do know about the food you eat? Where does it come from? Was it maintained at the right temperature? Does it have any pathogens?

HACCP compliance has several guidelines on how the food should be transported, but still many storage facilities or transporters fail to monitor them. Only a fraction of customers know about the food they eat and that too with labels and description and some research.

The food Americans eat is not grown in the same state; mostly it’s been transported from various parts of the country, like apples from Washington, beef from Texas, strawberries from California. Hence it takes the time to transport. Transportation rules are different in each country and the trucks differ depending upon the business and the goods transported.

Food safety is important for anyone; be it producers, processors, retailers, or transporters. According to new FSMA rules, everyone in this chain is responsible for checking the food life especially vis-a-vis temperature of the fruits, vegetables, dairy products, ice creams, meat, seafood, etc., while it is stored or transported.

The 4 critical parameters to ensure while transporting or storing food are:

  1. Critical control points to be monitored real-time at every stage
  2. To ensure that the goods don’t cross the critical control limit i.e., certain goods have standards temperatures to be maintained; hence those should be maintained at the temperature to stop developing any pathogens.
  3. Explore the market for the latest and the most efficient technology
  4. Make sure the food meets HACCP compliance
