FSMA compliance

If you are into food supply or cold chain industry you might know the FSMA rules. It makes sure the food transported or we eat are maintained at good temperatures thereby decreasing the food borne diseases and illness.

Create your own FSMA plan to meet the compliance by reading this blog. We have put together the new rules that should be implemented in food and transportation industry right here.

The new food safety plan includes:

  1. Hazard Analysis
  2. Preventive Controls
  3. Monitoring Procedures
  4. Corrective Actions
  5. Verification and Record Keeping
  6. Food Safety

Hazard Analysis:

The first part of the HACCP plan includes ‘Understanding.' You and your team need to understand the FSMA principles to imply them. The companies should make sure the food which is being transported should be maintained at certain temperatures throughout the transportation or storage. According to the new FSMA rules, the produce which was not monitored earlier is to be monitored. For example, vegetables like potatoes, onions, tomatoes are to be maintained at specific temperatures according to FSMA rule.

Preventive Controls:

If you need a good plan to meet the new FSMA compliance then you need to prevent damages from happening. And that’s what the new FSMA is all about “prevention before control” your team needs to know the produce temperature points where the food can be contaminated and take steps to arrest the issues by placing them in other way or monitoring them time to time to prevent the food borne illness and diseases.

Monitoring Procedures:

Once you understand the principles and nature of food, start monitoring the food while transport or storage. Use device which monitors the parameters like temperature, location of the produce, etc., and prepare the place where it should be stored, before the truck reaches the destination. This decreases the food contamination and wastage.

Corrective Actions:

If there is any failure in the process of transportation be sure the correct action is taken and the customers health is not in jeopardy. As in, track the food’s parameters at regular intervals Know when the truck reaches the destination and get the storage ready to store the produce. This allows the produce to maintained at the right parameter’s during transition from Transport vehicle to storage.

Verification and Record Keeping:

Verification is important just like scientific reasons. Verify all the procedures and check whether the products reach the FSMA Compliance before you start processing it. Be sure your plan meet the guidelines. Verifying that your solution is working meeting the FSMA rules, and the other parameters are operating properly is critical to a successful plan.

Finally make sure you have the records like names of the transporter’s immediate source, subsequent receipts, origin and destination points, dates of shipments received and released, route movements during the transportation of the truck inside the US or entering the US, etc., At least 1 year history of the monitoring parameters should be stored according to the new FSMA rules.
